if in fulfilment of joel's prophecy god's spirit was poured out on both men and women at pentecost 33 ce giving them the ability to prophesy, why did paul say that women should keep silent?.
Narkissos made the key point right off the bat. The fact that this passage appears in different locations in the text and disrupts the flow of said text indicates to me that Paul didn't write it anyway.The fact that this view falls in line with later church views (that didn't harmonize with the attitude Jesus displayed toward women ) seals the deal.
BTW Nark-isn't it also true that in some manuscripts this passage appears as a marginal note?

AllTimeJeff, I'm afraid that I have to disagree with most of your observations. I really don't want to get into a protracted political debate, however, since that wasn't my point.
Mary, barry and greendawn got my point.That is: comparing any U.S. President (or the President/Prime Minister of any western democracy for that matter) to this guy is ridiculous. I see many people doing it and I just scratch my head. (Bush=HITLER? come on....get a grip. Not to mention a little historical perspective. )

Well,at the risk of making everyone angry with me, I feel compelled to point out a couple of things. First of all, any statements regarding his right to free speech are moot. The Constitution grants free speech rights to U.S. citizens, which he is not. Second, Iran is the number one state sponsor of terrorism in the world. Third, Iran is thumbing it's nose at the entire world (not just the U.S.) regarding their nuclear weapons program.For these reasons and others, I think it was a mistake for the university to even invite this thug to speak there. I agree that the mistake was somewhat abrogated by the fact that he made a fool of himself. However, everything that he said was already known from interviews and Iranian television broadcasts. The Holocaust denial,desire to wipe out Isreal and America,as well as his Apocalyptic religious views were on record. So nothing new came out of this.
And really, comparing President Bush to thisguy? When was the last time you heard of Bush having homosexuals and political opponents executed?

anyway, on a previous post i mentioned that there are some really sharp people on this forum; people whose bible knowledge greatly exceeds that of anyone in brooklyn.
I forgot to mention in that last post...as some of you alluded, there are several really sharp people on this forum. I wholeheartedly agree! I could have picked Narkissos, Alan F., Terry or any one of several others of whom I am too tired to type out right now.
I picked Leolaia for two reasons :
1. She is my favorite Poster, and
2. In my scenario, the fact that she is a woman makes it even better. Being drilled by a woman would shatter Teddy's fragile male ego, thus facilitating the major meltdown I envisioned.
